Hello everyone!
I'm DJ Flipside from the UK, a DJ producer who has been making many different kinds of music including downtempo, trip hop, old school hip hop, breakbeat and turntablism records for over 18 years. I have independently produced a collection of DJ tools records on vinyl best known as 'DJ Flipside Presents Breakers Yard Vol 1 to 5' amongst others, which I will be bringing back to life here.
The main point of this blog is really to keep vinyl alive by offering some very limited editions of past vinyl releases of mine for very modest prices, while also giving away some original and sometimes unreleased music compiled and produced by me.
Despite the fact that I'm an avid supporter and user of digital DJ tools like Serato Scratch and CD decks, I think that most new turntablists nowadays are solely using digital media and starting to forget the original roots of turntablism - the mighty VINYL! Long gone are the days when the DMC championships saw DJ competitors using piles of records to perform a 3 minute set, and some actually going as far as producing their own original scratch records in order to achieve a higher grade of competitiveness, which sometimes was simply unbeatable! (i.e. DJ Craze, Q-Bert, etc).
Here you will also find the occasional giveaway of out of print and often rare 70's funk, jazz and library music to keep everyone interested. Although, I wouldn't dare to compete with the blogger heavyweights of these genres whose dedication to keeping this golden era of music alive is truly commendable and inspirational (you know who you are).
So here we are! My first post of hopefully many to come. Feel free to grab a seat and enjoy the ride!
